Pixar may be serving up more sequels than ever, but Ratatouille 2 is currently not on the menu, according to director Brad Bird. While the studio continues expanding some of its biggest franchises, the Oscar-winning filmmaker says Ratatouille is one story he has no desire to revisit.
The comments come at a time when Pixar continues to expand several of its biggest properties, with Toy Story 5 arriving this year and The Incredibles 3 already in development. Naturally, many fans have wondered whether Ratatouille could eventually receive the same treatment.
Bird, however, believes some stories are best left exactly where they ended.

Brad Bird says Ratatouille 2 is not happening
Speaking in Collider's exclusive interview while promoting his upcoming animated film, Ray Gunn, Brad Bird revealed that Pixar has occasionally floated the idea of revisiting Ratatouille. However, the filmmaker said he has consistently turned down the suggestion because he believes the story has already reached its natural conclusion.
"No. I don't. They've made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They'll, like, crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, 'Would you?' And I'm like, 'No, we told that story.' Bird told Collider.
Expanding on his reasoning in Collider's exclusive interview, Bird said audiences often assume every successful film deserves a sequel simply because it connected with viewers. He added that he applies the same philosophy to The Iron Giant, believing its story has also been fully told and doesn't require a follow-up.
For Bird, the decision ultimately comes down to whether there is a meaningful story left to tell rather than the popularity of the original film. Interestingly, that philosophy doesn't extend to every one of his animated projects, with one of Pixar's biggest franchises proving to be a notable exception.
Why The Incredibles is different from Ratatouille?
While Brad Bird has firmly ruled out Ratatouille 2, he believes The Incredibles is a very different case. Unlike Remy's story, he feels the Parr family's world still offers plenty of opportunities for new adventures and character development.
"Now, The Incredibles — I could see another Incredibles film," Bird said while discussing the future of the superhero franchise in the same interview. Although he will not direct The Incredibles 3, the filmmaker is writing the screenplay for director Peter Sohn.

For now, Bird's focus remains on Ray Gunn, his long-awaited adult animated feature set to debut on Netflix later this year. As for Ratatouille, fans hoping to see Remy return for another culinary adventure may have to settle for revisiting the original, as its creator appears convinced that some stories are simply better left untouched.
