Fans hoping to see Geralt's final adventure sooner rather than later may have to wait a little longer. The fifth season will serve as the final chapter of Netflix's fantasy adaptation, bringing the journeys of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer to a close. While filming wrapped some time ago, a new report suggests that extensive post-production work is behind the revised release plans. 

According to the report, Netflix has pushed the release of The Witcher Season 5 into 2027, delaying what was previously expected to arrive in late 2026.   

The delay, as reported by What's on Netflix, is largely being attributed to technical and post-production requirements rather than any production setbacks. The final season reportedly needs additional time for visual effects, editing, and other finishing touches to ensure the series’ conclusion meets the scale Netflix is aiming for.

The update from What's on Netflix comes as a surprise given that Seasons 4 and 5 were filmed back-to-back, a strategy originally designed to shorten the wait between installments. Earlier reports and comments from the creative team had pointed toward a 2026 release window, with the final season already deep into post-production.

This delay can either cause disappointment or generate even more curiosity about whether the additional post-production time will result in a stronger finale.

Season 5 will conclude the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy saga. The final season is expected to adapt the closing chapters of the book series while bringing together Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer for one last battle against the forces threatening the Continent. It will also continue storylines introduced in Season 4, which brought several new faces into the world of The Witcher. 

With Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt following Henry Cavill's departure, many fans are still eager to see how the series handles the transition as it heads toward its finale.  For now, Netflix has yet to reveal an official release date. But if the latest report proves accurate, viewers may be waiting until 2027 before returning to the Continent for Geralt's final chapter.
