Henry Cavill Shed Light on His Decision Not to Resort to a Body Double for His Stunts in ‘The Witcher’
There are way too many reasons for The Witcher fans to believe that no one but Henry Cavill can play Geralt. One of them is Cavill’s knowledge about the franchise and just how well-versed he is about his character, Geralt. However, Rome was not built in a day, and neither was the British actor’s wealth of knowledge. Cavill went on an intensive research binge and rigorous training to get under his character’s skin. Additionally, he opted against using a body double for his role, preferring to perform all his stunts single-handedly.
In an interview, Cavill shared his reasons for going above and beyond for his role as Geralt in The Witcher.

Ahead of the release of the first season of The Witcher, Henry Cavill shared his motivations for putting forth extra work for his character, Geralt. During a panel talk at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Cavill and the showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, brought the 40-year-old actor’s dedication to light. It mattered greatly to him that when viewers watched Geralt on screen, they identified him as Geralt himself. He was not about to stick to being just an “acting piece” on the show while leaving all the heavy lifting to stuntmen.

He was so dedicated that he practically lived on set “with a sword in hand“. He also kept multiple of them at work and his home. After the panel, Hissrich let on to journalists that once they hooked the Man of Steel actor for the role, he immediately started shooting messages back and forth with the maker to toss in his ideas about Geralt’s character. From the monster hunter’s wig and lenses to the scripts, Cavill made sure to give his opinion on every aspect. It is stuff like these that is making Liam Hemsworth’s segue into Cavill’s character all the more challenging.
Before fans could even see the Australian actor in the fourth season of The Witcher, an animated film made it even tougher for audiences to welcome Hemsworth into the franchise.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is Netflix’s upcoming animated film. It is set to deliver more monster-hunting thrills before launching the fourth installment of Lauren Hissrich’s series. Fans were expecting either Henry Cavill or Liam Hemsworth to lend their voices to Geralt in the film. However, Doug Cockle, popular for voicing Geralt in the CD Projekt Red’s game adaptation, landed the role. This meant that before Hemsworth, another beloved figure behind Geralt would be coming to the forefront.

This may make it even more difficult for viewers to welcome another Geralt through Hemsworth’s portrayal. Nevertheless, the cast is very excited to see what The Hunger Games actor will bring to the table. Speaking of the fans, while they can not currently visualize anyone else taking on Cavill’s Geralt, it is important to remember that they had the same struggle when the Enola Holmes actor was signed up for the role.
