Rita Wilson appeared on the May 27 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote her new album and tour, 'Sound of a Woman'. But before the conversation wrapped up, the actress and singer paused to reflect on what Kelly Clarkson had built over the past seven years, particularly the way she transformed daytime television through music.

“I just want to say one thing before we go. I wanna thank you for the years that you’ve been doing your show. I wanna thank you for literally changing the game when it came to daytime television, I really want to thank you because it has made a big change in my life. So thank you, Kelly,” Wilson said on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Wilson’s comments landed particularly hard, given how closely Clarkson’s musical identity has become tied to the show itself. From viral “Kellyoke” performances to spotlighting live musicians in daytime television, The Kelly Clarkson Show gradually carved out a lane that felt noticeably different from the traditional celebrity-driven talk show format.

As the studio audience cheered in support of Wilson’s words, Clarkson visibly teared up, trying to laugh through the emotional moment as the heartfelt tribute clearly struck a chord. But the reaction also served as a reminder that the end of her talk show has never been just another career decision — for Clarkson, it is deeply personal.

Why did Kelly Clarkson decide to step away from her talk show?

Kelly Clarkson first announced in February that the current season of The Kelly Clarkson Show would be her last, explaining that the decision came as she looked to prioritize time with her children following the death of ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in August 2025.

“I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show, and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner," she said, emphasizing the factors that made her decision a heart wrenching one.

"Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show. Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.” Clarkson said in her farewell statement announcing the end of The Kelly Clarkson Show. However, the singer reassured fans that she is not stepping away from entertainment entirely and will still return as a coach for The Voice Season 30, which is arriving at a moment of major change across television, including a recent late-night farewell as well.
