Spider-Man theories were swinging around New York faster than Peter Parker himself before Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived. One of the most popular predictions was that Parker would team up with Daredevil, giving two New York heroes their long-awaited moment together. Jean Grey ultimately became the unexpected superhero connection, but an early draft reveals Daredevil was once in the picture.

That draft beautifully brought the iconic Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up from the comics to life, putting two New York heroes together.

Daredevil was supposed to join Spider-Man in a legal battle so strange that even New York might have needed a courtroom and a superhero. Chris McKenna, who co-wrote Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Erik Sommers, revealed the scrapped story on Bulwark Goes to Hollywood. The early draft sent Peter Parker far from his usual New York routine.

Instead of swinging through Manhattan, Parker was living on a boat in Southeast Asia and fighting criminal gangs as an isolated, hardened hero. Back home, an imposter had stolen the Spider-Man identity, replicated Parker’s suit and web fluid, and legally trademarked the brand. Then came the ultimate superhero nightmare: a cease-and-desist notice ordering Parker to stop being Spider-Man.

With fists and web-shooters suddenly useless against a legal injunction, Parker turned to Matt Murdock for help. McKenna explained that on Bulwark goes to Hollywood, Daredevil’s lawyer alter ego was brought into the story to defend Parker against the imposter’s claim. The result would have been a wonderfully bizarre Spider-Man and Daredevil partnership, with New York’s heroes fighting a battle in court.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Shattered Tom Rothman’s Post-COVID Box Office Expectations

With rumors swirling that Tom Holland could keep playing Spider-Man until 2040, it is only natural for the mind to wander toward all the possibilities, including a long-awaited Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up.

Could Daredevil ever swing into Spider-Man’s corner?

If Spider-Man and Daredevil missed their live-action moment in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the web has hardly gone cold yet. Marvel has already confirmed that Charlie Cox will voice Daredevil opposite Spider-Man in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, arriving in January 2027. That animated meeting could keep the door nicely ajar for something bigger.

The live-action possibilities are especially intriguing because Peter Parker and Matt Murdock already belong to the same MCU, while Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are bringing an enormous collection of heroes together. A future street-level story could also reunite the pair around New York, particularly with Wilson Fisk already connecting Daredevil to the city’s vigilante world. For now, though, Spider-Man and Daredevil remain a team-up waiting for the right moment.
