Willa Dunn has officially joined Season 2 of Little House on the Prairie as the iconic troublemaker Nellie Oleson. Nearly 50 years after the original 1974 TV adaptation first aired, the classic prairie drama still garnered over 13.25 billion viewing minutes in 2024 alone, proving that the Ingalls family saga has never truly left audiences behind. And now, as Laura Ingalls journeys from Wisconsin’s Big Woods into the prairie town of Independence, a brand-new Nellie is already preparing to turn that peaceful world upside down.
But who exactly is Willa Dunn, and what kind of chaos is the new Nellie Oleson about to unleash inside Little House on the Prairie?

Before stepping into the prairie chaos of Little House on the Prairie, Willa Dunn had already quietly built a strong resume across television and streaming projects. She previously appeared as “Little Loretta” in Only Murders in the Building, portraying the younger version of Meryl Streep’s character, while also landing roles in Poker Face, Inside Amy Schumer, Coup!, and musical drama The Runarounds. But her biggest spotlight may now arrive through Nellie Oleson, the spoiled, sharp-tongued rival who reportedly lives to make Laura Ingalls miserable.
Nellie is expected to officially enter the story in Season 2 after Season 1 premieres on July 9, 2026. And with Netflix already renewing Little House on the Prairie before its first season even arrives, the platform clearly seems confident that the decades-old franchise still has a massive audience waiting. In fact, the nostalgic resurgence of the original series reportedly turned it into the internet’s most-streamed legacy television title, even outperforming classic giants like Gunsmoke.
Meanwhile, even before its premiere, Little House on the Prairie has already stirred massive buzz as Netflix prepares to revive one of television’s most nostalgic family worlds for an entirely new generation.
All about Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie
Unlike the beloved 1970s adaptation, Netflix’s new version of Little House on the Prairie reportedly stays much closer to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s original books while presenting the prairie through a more grounded and modern lens. The story follows Laura Ingalls and her family as they leave behind their old life to survive the dangerous frontier, with the reboot blending family drama, survival storytelling, and the harsh realities of the American West. Leading the cast are Alice Halsey as Laura, Luke Bracey as Pa Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Ma Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Mary, and Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann.

Behind the scenes, the reboot is also backed by a massive creative team. Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for works like The Vampire Diaries, The Boys, and Archive 81, serves as creator and showrunner alongside directors including Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland. The first season reportedly consists of eight episodes and was filmed entirely in Winnipeg between June and October 2025, with the production additionally promising a more historically layered perspective on frontier life, including Indigenous viewpoints like the Osage Nation.
And while fans may still have to wait before witnessing Nellie Oleson and Willa Dunn fully unleash their prairie chaos, Little House on the Prairie will be available to watch on Netflix on July 9, 2026.
