When Netflix’s The Witcher anime series titled Sirens of The Deep was announced, its fans could not have been more thrilled at the prospect of the thrilling expansion. Based on the literary works of Andrzej Sapkowski, the Witcherverse has long held the attention of fantasy fiction lovers. Through its gritty labyrinth of monster hunts, magic, and moral ambiguity, Sapkowski’s novels have inspired an equally gripping series and spin-offs. Now, as The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is on its way, fans are gearing up for another adventure.

Rooted in Andrzej Sapkowski’s A Little Sacrifice, Netflix’s upcoming anime will bring the spotlight on a bard: Essi Daven. Essi’s story was part of the collection of six short stories in the novel Sword of Destiny. However, before Sword of Destiny, it would help to begin with the two prequels that came before. Firstly, The Last Wish, which centered on the Geralt of Rivia, makes for the perfect gateway into the Witcher saga.

Second in line is the Season of Storms, which stands as the eighth book within the Witcher series that will add to the immersive journey for enthusiasts. After these two, Sword of Destiny, which contains A Little Sacrifice amongst others will paint the plot that The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep will follow.

As the narrative unfolds, a love-struck Prince Agloval seeks Geralt’s aid in wooing Sh’eenaz, a captivating siren. Despite the Witcher’s linguistic prowess in The Elder language, Sh’eenaz refuses. After futile negotiations, Agloval refuses payment, steering Geralt towards a mystifying series of events. An investigation reveals a hidden undersea world during which Geralt’s path intertwines with Essi Daven.

Essi, who harbors unrequited feelings for him, embarks on a journey with Geralt and Dandelion. Ultimately, Sh’eenaz sacrifices herself and Essi succumbs to a disease, leaving Geralt with some deep learnings. It has not been revealed who will voice these characters, although Henry Cavill is rumored to return to his The Witcher character. From this saga emerges the inspiration driving the anime spin-off.
