Netflix's fantasy kingdom has long been ruled by sweeping tales of monsters and magic. While the sprawling saga of The Witcher has captivated the imagination with its dark, magical battles, there is something profoundly nostalgic that continues to lure audiences deeper. Rooted deeply in cherished stories and cultures, The Witcher's most elaborate supernatural quests stand surpassed by one that feels closest to the heart and human experience.

When one season of whisking together elements airlifts past four of monster slaying, Netflix's fantasy throne starts looking suspiciously 'bendy'.

Netflix's 2025 data has revealed a surprising shift as Avatar: The Last Airbender’s live-action adaptation overtook The Witcher as the platform's most-streamed fantasy series, as per The Collider. Released in 2024, The Last Airbender, the adaptation has only one full season but has accrued remarkable viewership, boasting roughly 21.2 million opening weekend views. This is notable against The Witcher's four seasons, one as recent as October 2025, holding only 7.4 million views on its own.

The Witcher’s journey has been turbulent behind the cameras and screens. The series has faced criticism for straying from the rich detail of its original books, alienating some devoted fans. Cast changes added to the instability, with Liam Hemsworth’s performance as the Witcher receiving mixed reviews, seen by some as lacking the depth expected for this complex character. These factors combined to temper enthusiasm for the series, impacting its Netflix viewership standing, as The Collider reported.

But, alas, there is only so much even benders can do to escape Netflix's high-production machine.

Has this Avatar adaptation perfected Netflix's way of bending?

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s return to the screen had definitely rekindled an ever-simmering fandom, though not without its shortcomings. The adaptation's storytelling has been criticized aplenty by long-time enthusiasts for compressing plot elements to fit Netflix’s production demands, resulting in a rushed narrative. The departure of the original creators early in production cast a shadow of doubt over the fidelity and future of the series. Yet, it has still managed to capture the elemental magic that made the original beloved.
