Netflix’s trusted money maker for years, Stranger Things, has announced its final season. Given how the series has been raising the standards since day one, audiences have pretty big expectations from the final season. Not only are they hoping to see Vecna pay for his crimes against humanity, but they are desperately wishing that the Duffer brothers deliver justice to what they started with Will.

The series started when Joyce Byers’ little boy went missing and ultimately unfolded to be one of the most hailed science fiction tales in recent years. But in Season 4, albeit emotionally, Will seems to be lost once again. If they do not play this right, it may just result in the tragic demise of the ‘masterpiece’ reputation that Stranger Things has long held. And with their recent announcement, it seems like the Duffer Brothers have already taken note.

After it was announced that Will Byers will be taking the front seat in the finale season of Stranger Things, the uproar for Byler, the ship name for Will Byers and Mike Wheeler, was unlike ever before. And by asking whether they were Team Mileven or Team Byler, Duffer Brothers have driven fans wild.

The series in its recent seasons has taken a nuanced approach to hint at Will Byers’ sexuality and his affinity towards Mike. It was only addressed properly in the last episodes of Season 4.

Owing to the fact that Mike and Eleven are already dating, many fans believed that it was simply wishful thinking. That is, until now.

In the final episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 which effectively broke the Internet and fed Netflix a lifetime of views, Will Byers helps Mike to get back with Eleven all the while clearly being in love with him. Not only did he deliver another chapter in the book ‘Uselessly beautiful tales of One-sided Love’, but also gave fans the most relatable meme. The Duffer Brothers, however, are making him do a gear change that may just prove to be more powerful in turning the Hawkins kids upside down than the actual dimension. And fans can only shed tears of joy.

While the cries for ‘Team Byler for life’ are deafening, especially since the actor behind Will Byers, Noah Schnapp, also recently spoke about how the character helped in the discovery of his own sexuality, there are some who disagree. The anti-Byler group is small, but they have a big point.

Fans who do not want to see Will and Mike together have mostly reasoned that Mike is not a good partner. Apropos of his romantic relationship with Eleven, he fails at doing even the bare minimum. And such a boy dating what fans consider the epitome of all things good is simply unacceptable in the Stranger Things household.

So far, the demand for Byler has proven to be so loud that even if the Duffer Brothers were only playing with fans, they may just have to quip in.
