Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a beautiful relationship of six years and still counting. There have been countless stories about how a mutual setup between friends ended up being the epitome of what a modernized fairy tale looks like. From a mere long-distance relationship to having found comfort in each other’s vicinity, we know it all. However, the darker side of it was less talked-about until now. 

Netflix kicked off the first three episodes of the Harry and Meghan docuseries with some refreshing flashbacks and revelations. Along with some heartbreaking moments was a series of unfortunate events that the Duke and Duchess had to go through. Following the British tabloids, with hounding paparazzi in pursuit, the two had to make tremendous sacrifices that they had not imagined.

Meghan Markle had a Europe trip planned out before Harry

A few minutes into the docuseries, Meghan Markle sheds light on how she was ‘intent’ on being single for a while after her first separation from her former husband. The Duchess’ face brightened up while she was recalling her bachelorette days. “I had my career, my life, I had my path,” said the former American actress. She also revealed how a month prior to their engagement she had the latest season of Suits, her most notable work, come out. 

One of her friends, Lindsay Jill Roth elaborated how Meghan Markle only had dreamt of living an independent life. In the summer of 2016, “she (Meghan) had a few trips planned.” “She was just going to be free,” affirmed Roth. Lucy Fraser also quipped that Markle wanted to go around Europe on her girls’ trip. However, with an overwhelming sigh, Markle exclaimed, “then came H…talk about a plot twist.” Although her single life was sacrificed for good, they were unaware of what lay ahead of them.

Harry, later on, explained how men in the Royal Family always tend to marry someone who “would fit in the mold.” This was, in his opinion, opposed to who he was destined to be with. He also shared how he was terrified of bringing Meghan into his life along with the “baggage” that comes with being him, the Prince. Nevertheless, even he had his fair share of sacrifices. At last, both of the invented a way for it to work, as said by their friends.

Later in the episode, a Royal Author broke down the rules that Meghan and Harry wanted to abide by. But alas, they could not.
