Fans Slam 'The Old Guard 2' as Complete AI Disaster, Call Out Weak Narrative in “trash” Sequel
Fans cannot stop talking about The Old Guard 2, the long-awaited superhero sequel that released last week. The talk, however, is not in a positive light whatsoever, much to the makers' dismay. Social media is swirling with hot takes, viral comparisons, and particularly a wild accusation that has viewers doing a double-take. From mocking one-liners to full-blown threads, as theories lose momentum and reactions grow louder, the sequel has sparked a storm of opinion that ranges from amused to outright baffled.
Talking to Reddit, a fan expressed their dissatisfaction by saying they would rather pretend an Old Guard sequel never materialized than accept what The Old Guard 2 offers in terms of narrative and plot. The user lamented that the wait of five years for a second part to the iconic 2020 movie was not at all worth it, as the “product was nothing more than a slap in the face to the audience.” Per the netizen, the movie’s premise seemed to be generated using AI, as everything appeared not only lacking in substance but borderline disoriented. Those who streamed the movie on Netflix appeared to agree in the comments section.

For those unversed, The Old Guard 2 was released on July 2. The movie, directed by Victoria Mahoney from a screenplay by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker, adapts the former’s eponymous comic book. With Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, and more reprising their roles from the original, the movie sees Henry Golding and Uma Thurman join the ensemble. Despite the star power, the flick is only receiving negative reactions.
It took years to bring The Old Guard 2 to screens, but only minutes for fans to start questioning whether actual humans made it.
The Old Guard 2 sequel so bland, fans blame it on AI
While the return of immortal warriors in The Old Guard 2 should have left fans excited, it has rather left them disappointed. Commenting under the aforementioned Reddit post, one viewer did not hold back, writing, “The movie was complete and utter trash.” Elaborating, the person added that the movie was not even fun trash that one could watch and make fun of. Instead, it was complete baloney. Another critic took the bashing a step further, saying he and his wife thought “Charlize Theron’s face was AI,” while a third commented they were “glad it was over” when they finished watching it.

Well, whether The Old Guard 2 was crafted by humans or bots, fans seem united on one front: the sequel does not do justice to the original, a sentiment being perfectly portrayed by the "I feel the same" and "never finished the movie" chants. What was meant to be a triumphant addition to Netflix's treasure trove of original films has instead sparked memes and digital guessing games no one asked for.
