Taylor Swift Fans in a Fix as Internet Calls Out Sheer Obsession With Stealing Credit From Major Artists

Published 06/10/2024, 2:11 AM EDT

Taylor Swift's devoted fan base called the Swifties, known for over-the-top enthusiasm, has driven her success, but some fans' enthusiasm has become excessive. While their passion is admirable, it sometimes overshadows others' achievements, creating an unbalanced dynamic. Such disruption and imbalance on social media has sparked concerns about the limits of fandom causing resentment amongst fan bases of other renowned artists.

In a similar instance, one enthusiast took it too far on social media platform X. The user credited Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, and Shawn Mendes' success in opening for Taylor Swift's tours, implying that their support is the sole reason for their fame. The user arbitrarily commented how “the power of Taylor’s tour opening slot needs to be studied” on a Pop Base post highlighting Sabrina Carpenter's chart-topping streams.

The user then suggested that the ‘Feather’ singer's recent album success is also attributed to her opening for Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' concerts. While it is true that these artists have benefited from touring with Swift, other social media users have claimed it is unfair to diminish individual talents and hard work.

Fans of other artists and neutral music enthusiasts did not hesitate to debunk the assumptions made by the Swiftie.

Taylor swift fans face strong resilience from other music enthusiast

As the debate raged on, another user stepped in to correct the claim that Justin Bieber opened for Taylor Swift, providing evidence to the contrary. Others chimed in, pointing out that Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, and Shawn Mendes were already established artists before Taylor Swift's rise to fame. Another fan strongly disagreed, refusing to diminish the individual achievements of each artist. "Of course, a Swiftie would be discrediting a woman’s success because she opened for another," another remarked.

"Don't act like that's a group work," it said, emphasizing that Taylor Swift's choice of openers is separate from their own path to stardom. It highlighted everyone's talent, rather than attributing their success solely to Taylor Swift's influence.

A keen observer noted that Swifties often fail to acknowledge the achievements of women in the music industry without somehow linking them to Taylor Swift's success, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and nuanced perspective on the Swifties’ end. This has been a persistent issue with Taylor Swift fans worldwide. While stars continue to shine, their fans find themselves in a deadlock.
