Marvel certainly has a record of some of the best and most unexpected cameos. But very few come close to Henry Cavill’s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor appeared as a variant of the Marvel hero Wolverine and effortlessly stole the spotlight with his rugged beard and cigar in hand.
Although he appeared only for a brief moment, the actor’s cameo still made an impact on the film as well as the audience. That may have sparked curiosity about whether Cavill could return in another major role in future films in the franchise, such as Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel has previously brought multiverse variants into its films. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who played multiverse variants of Spider-Man, appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This makes a strong case for the studio to consider bringing back Henry Cavill, who also played a multiverse variant of Wolverine, dubbed the “Cavillrine,” in Deadpool & Wolverine.

However, there has been no official update on Cavill’s potential return. His cameo was one of the film’s and franchise’s biggest surprises, especially since his appearance was never rumored like several other cameos. Moreover, it came shortly after Cavill departed from the DC Universe as Superman, ahead of James Gunn’s reboot of the franchise with a younger version of the iconic hero.
While Cavill’s time with DC has come to an end, the actor has an intriguing future in the Marvel Universe. And there appears to be plenty of potential to explore his character further. His cameo became so popular that one of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends releases even featured a figure based on Cavill’s iteration of the iconic X-Men character. However, nothing is confirmed until Marvel makes an official announcement.
Now, even the story behind Cavill’s casting for the cameo is also quite interesting.
How did the team cast Henry Cavill in Deadpool & Wolverine
Henry Cavill’s Wolverine cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine was a fun addition and a nod to his previous status as Superman. During an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Ryan Reynolds revealed how difficult it was to envision someone to play Wolverine after Hugh Jackman. But he suggested Cavill as an actor who could take on a Wolverine variant if such a recasting were ever necessary.
"But if you had to do it, and replace the guy who's made it canon in every way, shape, and form on-screen and off wasn't available, Henry Cavill would be pretty good!" Reynolds said.

Director Shawn Levy said that as soon as they made up their mind, the team began working on it. And this is how one of the most unexpected cameos came to be. Whether Cavill returns in the MCU for a major role or not, his cameo will remain unforgettable.
