James Barker was one of the producers on Peacock's reality dating series Love Island USA. The executive producer died in Fiji last week at the age of 40 after suffering an unexpected medical emergency, as per TMZ.  He was currently working on the show's latest installment, Season 8, which is being filmed in Fiji.

Both ITV America and Peacock confirmed the news in a tribute honoring Barker. As per Deadline, he began his television career in 2011 at Leftfield Pictures, where he worked as a producer on shows including Counting Cars, Forged in Fire, and Pawn Stars.  

  Barker later joined ITV America, where he produced Queer Eye along with multiple seasons of Love Island USA and Love Island Games. He also worked on projects for Scout Productions, Sharp Entertainment, and Kinetic Content. As per his LinkedIn profile, Barker joined ITV America in August 2020. 

He continued working with the company and was promoted to full-time executive producer in January 2026. Over the years, Barker became a crucial part of the Love Island USA franchise, producing several seasons of the hit reality dating series.

To honor his contributions, Love Island USA will prepare a special tribute in his memory.

Love Island USA announced that it will honor executive producer James Barker during Tuesday's episode. As per TMZ, the show is expected to air a special tribute in his memory later in the episode. The announcement was made through the show's official social media account, which also shared a heartfelt statement expressing its appreciation for Barker and recognizing his contributions to the series.

"He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to James’ partner, family, friends, and colleagues," the statement read.

Barker's work and dedication left a huge impact on both the series and those who worked alongside him. He has played an undeniably important role in the show that goes beyond what people see on screen. While Love Island USA continues its latest season, Tuesday's tribute will take a moment to honor the producer who played an important role in its success.
