Is Harwin Strong still alive in House of the Dragon Season 3?
No, Harwin Strong is not alive in House of the Dragon Season 3.
The character died during Season 1 after a devastating fire broke out at Harrenhal, the ancestral seat of House Strong. Harwin was trapped inside the castle alongside his father, Lord Lyonel Strong, and both men perished in the blaze.
The tragedy was later revealed to be far from accidental. Harwin's younger brother, Larys Strong, secretly orchestrated the fire by using prisoners to carry out the attack, eliminating both his father and brother in a move that increased his own political influence and inheritance prospects. For longtime Game of Thrones fans, the revelation felt like a familiar reminder of one of Westeros' oldest rules: no alliance is sacred, no family bond is guaranteed, and betrayal can come from the people closest to you.
While Harwin himself is long gone by the time Season 3 begins, the consequences of his life and death continue to shape the story unfolding across Westeros.
That is because Harwin's importance was never defined by how long he lived, but by the secret he left behind.
Who was Harwin Strong in House of the Dragon?
Harwin Strong, often referred to as "Breakbones," was the eldest son and heir of Lord Lyonel Strong, the Lord of Harrenhal and one of King Viserys I Targaryen's most trusted advisors. He was widely regarded as the strongest knight in the Seven Kingdoms, earning the nickname because of his fearsome reputation in combat.
Over time, Harwin became one of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen's closest companions and eventually her lover. While never officially acknowledged within the realm, it was widely believed that Harwin was the biological father of Rhaenyra's three eldest sons—Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey Velaryon. The resemblance between Harwin and the boys became one of the worst-kept secrets in King's Landing and a major source of tension between Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower.

Even after his death, questions surrounding the parentage of Rhaenyra's children continued to fuel political divisions throughout the realm. In many ways, Harwin's relationship with the future queen became one of the foundations upon which the Dance of the Dragons was built.
Although Harwin appeared in only a handful of episodes, his influence on House of the Dragon remains enormous. Few characters managed to shape the future of House Targaryen so significantly with so little screen time.
