Grant Feely has taken over as Henry Lasso in Ted Lasso Season 4, stepping into the role previously played by Gus Turner as Ted’s son becomes more involved in the story.

At just 14, Feely is already an experienced young performer, but his arrival in one of Apple TV+’s biggest comedies marks an exciting new chapter in his career.

But Feely’s path to becoming Henry Lasso is more surprising than his age suggests, with the young actor already having experienced an unlikely Star Wars breakthrough before landing the role.

Grant Feely is only 14, but the young actor playing Henry Lasso already has an impressive résumé. Born in Brunswick, Georgia, in 2011, Feely became interested in acting at around seven after watching Stranger Things and becoming fascinated by its behind-the-scenes world.

“He has a tremendous amount of poise for such a young fella,” Sudeikis said of his onscreen son, as reported by USA TODAY, praising Feely’s confidence despite his age. Brendan Hunt has similarly highlighted the young actor’s subtle camera work, while Feely’s real-life connection to soccer has also proved useful for the role. He played the sport until around age 10 or 11 before stepping away to pursue acting, only to return to the field for Henry in Season 4.

“I was a huge fan of Ted Lasso before I even got the audition,” Feely told Decider, recalling how excited he was to join the series. After his initial audition, he waited around three months before being flown to Los Angeles for the final three, where he ultimately did a chemistry read with Sudeikis and Hunt.

Feely had already landed an extraordinary role before joining Ted Lasso, playing young Luke Skywalker in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. He initially did not even know the audition was for Star Wars, eventually going through several callbacks with director Deborah Chow before being offered the part. He has since appeared in Five Nights at Freddy’s, Chicago P.D., Echoes and Gunner.

His unusual journey has now brought him to one of television’s most beloved comedies, where stepping into Henry Lasso’s shoes means taking on a character entering a very different chapter in Season 4.

Henry Lasso was previously played by Gus Turner throughout the first three seasons, but Season 4 jumps forward three years and gives Ted’s son a much more prominent place in the story. Henry and Michelle now move to London with Ted, who begins coaching Richmond’s women’s team, putting the family back under the same roof and allowing the father-son relationship to become a much bigger part of the story.

Speaking with Page Six, Grant Feely revealed that the recasting decision came down to a practical requirement: Henry needed to be able to play soccer on screen in Season 4, something the previous storyline had not demanded of the character.

The young actor also explained that Henry may initially worry that Ted could leave him and Michelle behind again, making their move to London an important step in their relationship.

The recasting also comes at a point when Henry is no longer simply Ted’s young son appearing occasionally in the background. He is older, playing soccer himself and adjusting to life in a new country, giving Feely considerably more material to work with alongside Sudeikis.

That makes Season 4 more than a simple recasting for Henry Lasso: it gives Feely the chance to redefine the character as Ted’s son enters a new stage of his life, while putting their relationship at the heart of Ted’s latest chapter.
