Vin Diesel has confirmed that filming for the next Fast & Furious movie will begin in December. The long-awaited finale is finally moving toward production, bringing the franchise one step closer to its final ride.
The project has been years in the making, with Diesel determined to find an ending that can live up to the legacy of one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises. Now, after a lengthy journey to get the story right, the final chapter is finally beginning to take shape.
But getting Fast & Furious to this point has been far from easy, and Diesel has revealed just how much it took to reach a finale he could finally stand behind.
Vin Diesel finally reveals when the Fast & Furious finale will begin filming
Vin Diesel has finally put a date on the next Fast & Furious movie, confirming that production is scheduled to begin in December. The update provides the clearest timeline yet for the franchise’s long-awaited finale, although Diesel noted that the start remains dependent on fulfilling the studio’s request and keeping the project on track.
“We start shooting in December,” Diesel told Variety, confirming that the final chapter is now moving toward production after years of development. Diesel explained that reaching this point required an unusually long development process, with multiple writing teams brought in before he felt confident about the direction of the story.

“I've had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale,” he said to Variety. That level of patience suggests Diesel is not treating the final movie as simply another sequel. After building Fast & Furious into one of Hollywood’s most enduring action franchises, he wants its ending to carry enough weight to justify everything that came before it.
But even after finally finding a script he believes is worthy of the finale, Diesel had one uncomfortable reminder coming his way: he has promised to end this franchise before.
Vin Diesel admits he was wrong about ending the franchise
The interviewer brought up Vin Diesel’s previous comments that there would be no more sequels, immediately challenging the actor on whether this movie could really be the finale after all. Diesel responded with laughter, acknowledging that his earlier certainty had not exactly aged well.
Rather than trying to defend the contradiction, Diesel openly admitted that he had been wrong. It is a surprisingly fitting moment for a franchise that has repeatedly extended its own lifespan, finding new stories long after earlier chapters seemed to suggest the road was ending.

This time, however, the circumstances are different. Diesel has spent four years developing the story and cycling through four writing teams before reaching a final version that genuinely moved him. When he finally read the latest script, the experience reportedly left him in tears, suggesting that he may have found the emotional ending he had been searching for all along. With cameras expected to roll in December, the final chapter is finally moving from years of preparation toward becoming a reality.
After everything the Fast & Furious saga has survived, do you think Diesel can finally deliver a finale worthy of the franchise? Let us know in the comments.
