Fans of Mister Miracle may not have to wait much longer for casting updates, with writer Tom King teasing that major voice announcements for the animated series could be on the horizon. The show has quietly remained one of the more mysterious projects inside DC’s growing slate, largely developing out of the spotlight despite being based on one of the publisher’s most acclaimed modern comic runs. Unlike several other DC Universe titles, Mister Miracle was initially announced without major fanfare, leaving fans with only occasional updates on its progress.

But King’s latest comments suggest the adaptation may finally be beginning to take shape in a much bigger way — particularly for fans eager to know which iconic DC figures could be making their way into the story.

The upcoming animated series will feature several major Jack Kirby-created DC characters, with Tom King teasing that fan favorites like Orion, Darkseid, Mister Miracle, and Big Barda will all play key roles in the story. King also hinted that exciting casting announcements for the project may not be too far away.

“I love these Jack Kirby characters...Playing with Orion and Darkseid and Mister Miracle, especially Mister Miracle and Barta and their relationship, which is the key to the whole series, has been just absolutely joy. And wait till you see who’s being cast. Oh my god, it’s amazing. It’s great,” King said on The Brandon Davis Show.

King also suggested the show will stay emotionally faithful to what made the original comic resonate so strongly with readers. Having spent years hearing fans discuss the story’s most memorable moments, the writer explained that the adaptation allows him to lean further into the parts audiences connected with most while refining elements some found harder to follow.

But exciting casting is not the only thing King appears confident about. The writer also hinted that Mister Miracle could end up becoming one of DC’s most visually ambitious animated projects yet.

Tom King says DC is pushing the limits of animation for Mister Miracle

The casting process is not the only aspect of the project that appears ambitious. According to Tom King, DC Studios is also aiming to push animation technology to recreate the visual identity and emotional feel of Mitch Gerads’ original comic artwork.

“[We aim to make] the animation as good as what Mitch put in the comics...[DC Studios is] pushing the limits of all animation to get that done with all that,” King said on the Comic Greek Speak Podcast.

King also revealed that he has been deeply involved across nearly every stage of production, from writing every script and directing actors during recording sessions to editing the pilot and reviewing artwork. Mitch Gerads, who illustrated the original comic, is also attached as a producer on the series.

After nearly a decade of hearing fans discuss what resonated most in the original comic, King suggested the adaptation will lean further into the story’s strongest emotional beats while also refining areas some readers found confusing. It also arrives at a moment when DC appears increasingly willing to take creative swings across its slate, with more experimental and bold DC projects continuing to push beyond traditional superhero storytelling.
