And when asked to build his own Marvel squad, he made some very specific choices.

During an interview on KISS while promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland was asked which Marvel hero he would sign if the MCU were a football club. 

“Captain America would be on the team… endless fitness, strength, level head.” That choice reflects exactly what you would want from a captain, someone who can lead under pressure and keep the squad grounded no matter how intense the situation gets.

On the same KISS interview, he was asked who he would bring on as a substitute, and his answer came with a laugh.

“You know, I would probably bring Peter Parker in, he’d be a great super sub.” It is a fun but revealing answer, positioning Spider-Man as the kind of player who changes the tempo of a match, bringing energy and unpredictability when it matters most.

It also subtly reinforces how Holland still sees Peter as an essential part of the Avengers lineup, even if he is not always the one leading from the front. When the question turned to who he would send away into the multiverse, Tom Holland refused to name anyone.

“I can’t. I have to stand by my team. I have to support my team,” he said, doubling down on a loyalty-first mindset that mirrors both football culture and superhero teamwork.

That team-first mentality becomes even more interesting when you look at where Spider-Man’s story is heading next.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends on an emotional note between Peter and Ned, but the real setup comes after the credits roll. The final stinger centers on Ned’s Spidey Tracker app, a piece of tech that suddenly becomes far more important than expected. At first, the tracker behaves normally, showing Spider-Man in Queens. Then it glitches, zooms out beyond Earth, and ultimately registers his location as off-planet.

That single reveal changes everything, suggesting that Peter is no longer operating within the boundaries of New York or even Earth itself. The message “Spider-Man will return” appears without naming Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, keeping Marvel’s plans deliberately unclear.

The most likely scenario is that Peter is being positioned for a larger multiversal storyline, especially since there has been no confirmation of Holland appearing in Doomsday. That opens the door for a delayed but much bigger role in Secret Wars, potentially involving locations like Battleworld or other fractured realities.
