‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Team Fought Over Dressing Emily Blunt’s Character

Fashion may once again be taking center stage in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and why not, according to one of the film’s returning creatives, one character quietly became the wardrobe obsession behind the scenes for her team.
While anticipation around the sequel has largely focused on the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt nearly two decades later, costume designer Molly Rogers has revealed that one cast member quietly had the entire styling department competing for her attention.
The revelation also hints at something bigger happening inside the sequel’s fashion hierarchy — especially for Emily Charlton (character played by Emily Blunt in the film), who appears to have climbed much higher since audiences last saw her.

But according to Rogers, dressing Emily Blunt may have quietly become the most coveted job on set.
Emily Blunt’s Devil Wears Prada 2 wardrobe reportedly became the most fought-over job
Speaking to Gayety, costume designer Molly Rogers revealed that Emily Blunt’s character became one of the most exciting styling challenges in the sequel, largely because of how much Emily Charlton’s fashion world has evolved. According to Rogers, Emily now works at Dior in the film — a detail that immediately transformed her wardrobe into something much more elevated and fashion-forward.
“Emily gets fawned over because she wears edgier designers, and she works at Dior [in the film]...They really fought over who got to do her shopping list.” Rogers explained.
The enthusiasm makes sense. In the original 2006 film, Emily Charlton quickly became a fan-favorite thanks to her razor-sharp attitude, biting humor, and polished fashion sensibilities inside Runway magazine. Nearly 20 years later, the sequel appears to position her in an even more powerful role, now running Dior’s U.S. operations while Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs reportedly seek her support for ad dollars.
But the frenzy around Emily Blunt’s wardrobe may also reveal something bigger about where her character now stands in the sequel.
From Emily Charlton's Dior looks to Miranda Priestly’s tassel jacket, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is making fashion matter again
While Emily reportedly gets the edgier, fashion-savvy wardrobe treatment, Rogers explained that Andy Sachs’ style required a completely different approach. Speaking to People, the costume designer described Andy as someone whose wardrobe evolved through years of reporting work, vintage finds, and layered personal experiences rather than polished fashion expertise.
That contrast could ultimately make Emily one of the sequel’s biggest visual standouts. Rogers also teased standout looks elsewhere in the film, including Miranda Priestly’s heavily discussed Dries Van Noten tassel jacket — a piece so loved by Streep that the actor reportedly insisted it stay in the movie.

The excitement surrounding the film is already translating commercially as well. According to Variety and Deadline, The Devil Wears Prada 2 pulled in $77 million domestically and $156.6 million internationally during its opening weekend, proving audiences remain just as invested in the franchise’s fashion world as they were nearly 20 years ago.
