Off Campus has officially become Amazon Prime Video’s third biggest debut series ever, reaching 36 million viewers worldwide within its first 12 days of release. The romantic drama now sits behind only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout among the streamer’s biggest launches.

The breakout performance marks a major moment for the Elle Kennedy adaptation, which arrived on Prime Video with an already passionate fanbase and quickly gained traction among younger viewers. In less than two weeks, Off Campus has surged into the same conversation as some of the platform’s biggest originals.

And for a college hockey romance adaptation, those numbers are difficult to ignore.

Off Campus has suddenly joined Prime Video’s biggest success stories

Off Campus has quickly found itself in elite company at Prime Video. Within less than two weeks of release, the romantic drama climbed to become the third biggest debut series in the platform’s history, outperforming heavyweight titles like The Boys, Reacher, and even The Summer I Turned Pretty when comparing first-season viewership over the same 12-day release window.

“Obsession is officially in session at Prime Video, thanks to the fans who have embraced Off Campus...When you earn trust and deliver for an audience, they show up — and they’ve certainly done so for Off Campus.” Peter Friedlander, head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement from Amazon MGM Studios.

Only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout launched bigger, a sign of just how unexpectedly massive the show’s debut has been for Amazon. The streamer has also already renewed Off Campus for a second season, moving quickly to capitalize on its breakout momentum.

But Off Campus’ explosive rise may not be entirely surprising given the audience Amazon says turned up for the series in particularly massive numbers.

Why Off Campus exploded so quickly on Prime Video?

According to Prime Video, Off Campus delivered the highest performance among women aged 18–34 of any debut series in the streamer’s history, making it an especially dominant success with younger female audiences.

Part of that appeal may come from the formula itself. Based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling romance novels, the series combines college drama, hockey culture, and a fake-dating romance between introverted music student Hannah and hockey star Garrett,  a combination that has already proven hugely popular among romance readers and younger streaming audiences.

Its success also arrives at a moment when romance-driven streaming series are booming, particularly among teen and young-adult viewers who previously helped turn young-adult romance hit The Summer I Turned Pretty into a breakout success.

With Season 2 already officially on the way, Off Campus now finds itself in rare company at Prime Video and if these early numbers are any indication, Amazon may have quietly found its next major young-adult franchise.
