Melissa Barrera is opening up once again about the fallout that followed her exit from Scream 7, reflecting back on how the controversy surrounding her comments on Gaza dramatically reshaped both her career and her relationship with Hollywood.

Speaking with Variety, Melissa Barrera reflected on how vulnerable she felt within the Hollywood system at the time of the controversy. The actress explained that while she had become recognizable enough through projects like Scream and In the Heights to attract major headlines, she still lacked the level of industry protection enjoyed by bigger stars.

While Barrera says she is now in a much healthier and more fulfilled place, currently starring in the Broadway musical Titaníque, the actress admitted she still struggles a lot to even process the fact of how quickly the industry turned its back against her during the height of the backlash.
