Through his memoir: Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing Matthew Perry delved into his battle with addiction and how he eventually won it. In it, he wrote about the significance of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Don’t Give Up’ held for him. According to Daily Mail, the same song played along at the ceremony held today. Understandably, those attending could not hold back their tears upon hearing his favorite anthem.

While Perry struggled with addiction in his life, he never shied away from speaking his truth. Additionally, he set up The Matthew Perry Foundation to help others through addiction too. Considering that he wished to be remembered for this more than Friends, the song made for a fighting tribute to him. Especially because he credited this song as a major reason he made it through that difficult phase of his life.

The decade-long odyssey through the lives of six quirky New Yorkers, Friends, was much more than a show. As the most sarcastic of possibly all TV characters: Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry, immortalized his character. The whopping 236 episodes spanning the ten seasons of the show were shot at the Warner Bros Studios in Los Angeles. Well, this studio happens to stand right across the cemetery where Perry is now buried.

The cemetery also holds the graves of other celebrities like Paul Walker. However, in Perry’s case, it was all the more special since it was those sets where he once enjoyed special privileges owing to his creative mind. For the five: Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc, who were all present at the funeral, this was bound to be an emotional moment.
