Marvel has shared promising news for X-Men '97 fans, with one of the show's producers confirming that Season 3 will address the lengthy production delays that separated the first two installments. The update comes just days before Season 2 makes its long-awaited debut on Disney+.
The acclaimed animated revival quickly became one of Marvel Studios' biggest television successes following its 2024 premiere. However, the extended gap between Seasons 1 and 2 left many fans wondering whether future installments would face similar delays.
According to the show's producers, that won't be the case going forward.

Marvel producer says X-Men '97 Season 3 won't face another long delay
Speaking to The Direct, X-Men '97 producer Larry Houston revealed that Marvel Studios has learned from the production challenges that affected the gap between the first two seasons. He explained that the delays were a one-time issue and shouldn't impact the show's future.
"Luckily, the production problems won’t occur again. There was a huge gap of time between [season] one and two. They’ve learned their lessons, so with [seasons] three and four, that won’t happen again… That was a one-off." Houston said.
Houston's comments to The Direct offer encouraging news for fans already looking beyond Season 2, especially since Marvel has already greenlit Season 3. With the production pipeline now running more smoothly, Marvel appears to be thinking much further ahead than just its next installment.
In fact, the studio has already begun planning for what comes after Season 3.
Marvel already has long-term plans for X-Men '97
Marvel Studios' commitment to X-Men '97 extends well beyond its upcoming third season. Development is already underway on Season 4, while Marvel Television executive Brad Winderbaum has previously expressed hope that the revival will ultimately run for at least five seasons, matching the original animated series.
"I hope it runs at least 5 seasons, because that's as many seasons as the original series, so that would be really, that'd be really nice." Winderbaum previously told ScreenRant.

The confidence is not surprising given the show's critical success. While Season 1 earned a remarkable 99% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 has opened even stronger with a perfect 100% critics' rating based on its initial reviews, adding even more momentum ahead of its July 1 premiere.
With Marvel simultaneously preparing to introduce the X-Men into the live-action MCU through Avengers: Doomsday and a new feature film directed by Jake Schreier, the iconic mutants appear to have a bright future across both animation and live action.
