Margot Robbie has finally put rest to claims about a sequel to Barbie in an interview with Variety today. When the Australian actress was questioned about rumors regarding the blockbuster hit’s sequel or spin-offs, she declared that the flick was not “designed to be a trilogy” or otherwise. She even called this the audiences’ compulsion for a second installment to be a knee-jerk reaction that has become more common “in this day and age”.

She even remarked that sequels were never the next go-to for successful flicks like Barbie20 years ago, unlike the constant demand for one nowadays. From the looks of it, the 33-year-old probably does not seem to wish to tamper with the flick’s popularity by risking its impact with unpredictable future projects.

With no intentions for a sequel, Robbie was still willing to consider creating something similar.

Besides speaking her mind on the topic, Robbie also shed light on the flick’s director Greta Gerwig’s mindset. According to her, Gerwig was the kind to give her all to a movie and be too exhausted to consider a sequel as of now. However, she confessed they did “want to make more films that” can achieve the same “effect” as Barbie!

Not only did the pink-hued movie question gender stereotypes but also broke gender barriers by establishing Gerwig as the first female to generate a billion bucks at the box office. So, it can also be said that replicating the hype of the 2023 flick will be no small feat. Still, fans are bound to feel relieved that Robbie wishes to attempt it.

One thing that still makes this update heart-breaking for fans is the lost possibility of a Ken spin-off.

With a visually arresting persona and flawlessly executed musical anthems, Rayn Gosling’s performance brought perfect harmony to Barbie. It earned him such praise that fans wished his Ken-ergy-filled role would receive his own character movie. He extended his stint as Ken well into 2023 by releasing a much-praised EP of Ken’s soundtracks in December

So, it would have only made sense that he brought the Ken-ergy to 2024 too with a film focusing on his complex character. Especially considering how Ken’s entire arc ended in him wanting to share the spotlight with Robbie’s Barbie. Maybe if The Notebook actor wishes to, Ken might just get a spin-off despite Robbie’s disinterest.
