Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that preparations for Avengers: Secret Wars are already underway, despite Avengers: Doomsday still being in post-production. Speaking to Collider, the filmmaking duo shared that while they are busy putting the finishing touches on Marvel's next blockbuster, attention has already begun shifting toward the saga's grand finale. Joe Russo even admitted that Secret Wars could begin filming "so soon it makes us sweat a little."

"We're deep into finishing the movie, into finishing Doomsday. All of the grace notes, the music, working with Alan Silvestri, sound mix, creating Alan's incredible original music. Wait until you experience what he's cooked up for Doom. That, and then we're prepping. We're prepping Secret Wars. So, it's a complicated time in our lives, but thrilling."

Offering a glimpse into the demanding schedule while speaking to the Collider, Joe Russo explained that the team is currently focused on completing Doomsday, with everything from its score to its final sound mix now taking shape. He also praised longtime Marvel collaborator Alan Silvestri, teasing what audiences can expect from the legendary composer's latest work before revealing just how quickly the next phase is approaching.  The update is particularly noteworthy because it suggests Marvel Studios is already looking beyond Avengers: Doomsday.

The Russo Brothers' comments closely align with Marvel Studios' renewed emphasis on quality over quantity. At present, Avengers: Secret Wars is the only announced MCU film slated for theatrical release in 2027, arriving on December 17—almost exactly one year after Avengers: Doomsday debuts on December 18, 2026. Rather than filling that gap with multiple theatrical releases, Marvel appears to be dedicating its creative focus on ensuring its biggest crossover event receives the attention it demands.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently outlined that philosophy during an interview with Empire, explaining that the studio deliberately scaled back its output after years of an increasingly crowded slate.

"A lot of it is a strategy we've talked about for a while, of focusing on quality. We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn't want to be spread thin, and the Avengers is as important as it comes. And Secret Wars, in particular... is a setup in and of itself to the future, to what's next."

Feige's remarks help explain why Marvel left San Diego Comic-Con 2026 without announcing another MCU theatrical release for 2027. While fans can still look forward to Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 and Sony's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse during the year, Secret Wars currently stands alone as the studio's only planned big-screen offering. With Ghost Rider and Black Panther III already confirmed for 2028 and fans gearing up for Brand New Day this weekend, Marvel appears to be treating Secret Wars not simply as the end of the Multiverse Saga, but as the foundation for everything that follows.
