From his childhood to even the darkest parts of his addiction, he laid everything on the table for the world to see.
Now, almost a month after his tragic passing, the actor Sean Penn has shared his thoughts on the Friends star’s memoir, candor, humor, and even his death.

While addiction is a rather common problem in today’s world, not a lot of people are ready to share their experiences. However, that was not the case for Matthew Perry, and even Sean Penn acknowledged that. In a recent episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, the director called the actor “very intelligent and bold” for sharing his story in Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing.
He also recalled the last time he bumped into Perry at the airport. The 63-year-old said that though he had not read the memoir, he had watched some of the comedian’s promotion interviews. Penn went on to say about his untimely passing, “It’s tragic.” However, he was not “terribly surprised” as “he had done a lot of damage to his organs over the years.”
While the two may have not gone around in the same circles, both icons did cross paths for the first time in the NBC sitcom Friends.

Long before the world lost its Chandler Bing, it got to see one of the weirdest crossovers yet. Back in 2001, fans watched as Lisa Kudrow’s Pheobe ended up falling in love with her twin sister Ursula’s ex-boyfriend, Eric, who was played by Sean Penn. While the character appeared only for 2 brief episodes, he seemed to leave quite a mark on the viewers.
Although his storyline did not intertwine with Matthew Perry’s, there is no doubt that they did not cross paths on set. Ever since the news of his passing, many actors who played various characters on the NBC sitcom paid their respects to their fallen former co-star. In fact, even stars like Charlie Puth and Piers Morgan shared tributes to the star.
