When Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer landed on Netflix in 2024, no one could have predicted the cultural phenomenon it would become. The psychological thriller eventually broke into Netflix’s Top 10 most-viewed English TV series of all time, pulling in roughly 90 million views in just 90 days. And now, his latest mini-series, Half Man, has already begun drawing attention thanks to its emotionally intense premise and the addition of Jamie Bell in a leading role.

However, as Baby Reindeer became one of Netflix’s biggest breakout successes, many viewers are now wondering whether Gadd’s latest project has also landed on the streamer.

Is Richard Gadd’s Half Man actually streaming on Netflix?

No, Half Man is not streaming on Netflix. Richard Gadd’s latest mini-series was picked up by HBO and the BBC instead. Viewers in the United States can currently stream the series on HBO Max, while audiences in the UK can watch it for free on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Australian viewers can stream the show on Stan.

The streaming confusion is understandable, given Gadd’s close association with Netflix following Baby Reindeer. The mini-series stars Jamie Bell as Niall and Gadd himself as Ruben, following two half-brothers whose complicated bond unfolds across decades of emotional trauma, violence, and identity struggles.

But streaming availability may not be the only reason viewers are suddenly paying attention to Half Man.

Even if Half Man has not quite matched the near-universal acclaim of Baby Reindeer, the mini-series is still making noise. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show currently holds a respectable 76% critic score and 7.5 on IMDb with close to two thousand voters — notably lower than the 99% earned by Baby Reindeer, but still strong enough to spark conversation around Gadd’s follow-up effort and who knows, with time, it may reach the level of Baby Reindeer because the episodes are still coming out. The finale episode is scheduled for release on May 28.

Currently, Half Man is reportedly the fourth most-watched show globally on HBO Max, ranking behind titles like The Pitt, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and Euphoria. While critics have called the series emotionally devastating and deeply unsettling, many viewers seem curious to see what Gadd would do after turning Baby Reindeer into one of Netflix’s biggest surprise hits.
