Iman Vellani says she was not afraid to point out Marvel continuity mistakes while filming Ms. Marvel and The Marvels. The actor recently revealed that she often flagged inconsistencies early, worried that hardcore MCU fans online would inevitably spot them later.

For a franchise as interconnected as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even the smallest continuity slip can quickly turn into internet discourse. And according to Vellani, she often found herself thinking several steps ahead — especially when it came to fans who scrutinize every frame.

That also meant occasionally stepping into a role that went far beyond simply playing Kamala Khan.

Iman Vellani says she tried catching Marvel mistakes before fans could

Iman Vellani says she often acted as an unofficial continuity supervisor while working on Marvel projects, openly flagging inconsistencies she believed MCU fans would immediately notice online.

“I was like, ‘I know Reddit nerds are going to call it out. I’m calling it out now. You have the opportunity to fix it now,’” Vellani said on The Revenge Of Podcast, explaining how she would sometimes point out continuity issues while filming Ms. Marvel and The Marvels.

For Vellani, the concern was simple: Marvel fans notice everything. Whether it is timeline inconsistencies, character details, or tiny visual callbacks, the MCU fandom has built a reputation for dissecting even the smallest details frame by frame. Vellani admitted that trying to fix those moments was not always easy either, joking that Marvel’s famously layered approval system could make even small changes surprisingly difficult.

But Vellani’s behind-the-scenes involvement may not come as a huge surprise to longtime fans, especially given how openly passionate she has always been about comic books.

Iman Vellani’s Marvel obsession is now turning into comics of her own

Iman Vellani’s love for comics appears to be growing beyond fandom and acting. While Marvel producers may have quietly leaned on her knowledge during productions, the actor is now preparing to tell stories of her own on the page.

“But I got so lucky that I was given so much space to express myself at Marvel...All the producers that I was working with on both the show and the film really respected my opinion... So they really used me as their secret weapon in a way.” Vellani said on The Revenge Of Podcast.

That “secret weapon” energy now seems to be carrying into Vellani’s next creative chapter. The actor is set to make her solo comics writing debut with Chachu, a five-issue neo-noir miniseries arriving on August 5 through Image Comics and Tiny Onion.

Set in 1979, the story follows a 19-year-old Pakistani-Canadian woman named Leila, who travels to California to reconnect with her estranged private-investigator uncle, only to find herself caught in a mystery tied to long-buried family secrets. For Marvel fans who already saw Vellani as one of the MCU’s biggest nerds, her latest comments only reinforce why she may quietly be one of the franchise’s most passionate creative voices — especially as upcoming Spider-Man rumors continue to fuel excitement around Marvel’s future slate.
