Hip Hop Day Friends Style: Revisiting David Schwimmer’s Iconic Bars Against James Corden
Over the years, Hip-Hop has transformed itself from a street corner genre to a cultural phenomenon. Pioneered by DJ Kool Herc, this genre has given voice to the aspirations of the unheard and is making waves in the youth. With rappers like Kanye West, Eminem, and Drake being the new youth icons, we can gauge how impactful it is. Today, on the occasion of World Hip-Hop Day, an iconic moment from The Late Late Show will take you on a trip down memory lane.
David Schwimmer, known for his role in Friends, appeared in the Drop the Mic sequence from The Late Late Show in 2016. The rap is still considered too harsh as no one expected the usually calm and enigmatic Schwimmer to shapeshift into, what Friends fans would say, Red Ross!

The rap battle featured the talk show host James Corden, Schwimmer, and Rebel Wilson. It was expected from the two opponents to give the battle a hilarious spin owing to their wits and the fact that they are two comedic heavyweights. The rap began with Corden throwing disses at the Intelligence actor who was in the blue corner waiting for his chance to come, and oh boy, when it came!
The 56-year-old actor didn’t refrain from putting the popular host on blast by attacking him left, right, and center. The surprise appearance of Wilson was just a cherry on top. Her entry line “Enough of this crapping, why the hell do you want to hear two white men rapping” was enough to let fans gauge how savage the battle was going to be. The battle in no time took the form of a spit game and fans believed the two comedians can never be ‘friends’ after this.
Even though the rap battle is likely to be scripted, Friends fans know that Schwimmer was always a dope rapper!

From playing the keyboard to practicing on bagpipes for Chandler and Monica’s wedding, Ross always had a natural flair for music. Well, at least that’s what he thought. Even though his music experiments have been a head-splitter for the other characters in the show, fans have thoroughly enjoyed them. One of the iconic episodes that is etched into everyone’s memories is The One With Ross’s Inappropriate Song.
In this episode, Ross rapped for the first time to his daughter a song about…let’s just stop there! Even though the song was highly inappropriate, it got both Emma and Friends fanatics to bust a gut. While it is still difficult to answer if or not Ross and Rachel were on a break, it is safe to say that Schwimmer’s association with rap has always been a treat for laugh seekers.
