A factor that brings out the allure of an artist and establishes them is their ability to carry themselves. In Hollywood, along with acting prowess, each of the major stars has their own unique sense of fashion built over years of trial and error and former Superman actor Henry Cavill bears no exception. The poster boy of physique and charisma, the British star, has often resorted to suits for major events.

Yet, the process has more intricacies than meets the eye and the actor himself laid those secrets bare.

Henry Cavill sheds light on his classic style preference

A 2001 acting debut gave the actor time to experiment and conclude that suits fit him better than anything. Speaking to Fashion Beans, Henry Cavill once opened up that “two tailored suits of different styles” would be the quintessential items on his wardrobe. Furthermore, he also preferred “classic styles”, displayed in sheer prominence during his recent Argylle press tours. As for his disdain, tapered trousers bothered him as they gave him “turkey legs – big thighs and a big butt”.

On being offered different style suggestions by tailors, the Man of Steel persona would simply make them understand with “Guys, trust me – this is what works on me.” With navy blue and cream as his colors and linen as his fabric, the actor swore upon it. However, he did advise that everyone should experiment likewise and come up with their own preferences, as fashion, for him, should be “enjoyed and not stressed about”.

It is perhaps this ease in his chosen style combined with sheer professionalism that gave Cavill a “distracting” aura during Man of Steel suit fittings.

Man of Steel costume designers faced a tough challenge in prepping the actor’s suit

At 27 years of age, Henry Cavill took on the red cape as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. However, costume designer, Michael Wilkinson once spoke about how his team’s biggest challenge stood as “not to be distracted by Henry’s perfection”. Despite suit fittings and trials taking place in temperatures of over a hundred degrees and lasting for four hours and more, the lead actor hardly broke a sweat or complained.

The resulting professionalism had the movie debut with one of the most famed live-action Superman suits. Featuring a “dimensional texture” design, the blue mesh complemented by the red cape and the sheer physique of Henry Cavill made the suit an iconic placeholder of 21st-century pop culture.
