Elizabeth Banks has given her seal of approval to Elle Fanning's casting as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, calling the actor the "perfect" choice to take over the fan-favorite role.

Effie remains one of the most recognizable characters in the Hunger Games franchise, with Banks' colorful portrayal helping make the Capitol escort a standout presence across the original film series. Any announcement involving a younger version of the character was always likely to attract attention from longtime fans.

"I am so excited. I think she's perfect casting. I've always said it. The fans loved it and wanted it, so I was really happy about it," Banks said.

The casting has generated considerable enthusiasm among fans since it was first announced, particularly because Fanning will be stepping into a role that became closely associated with Banks throughout the original four Hunger Games films.

Based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping centers on a young Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Fanning as Effie, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow.

The prequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 20, 2026, giving audiences their first opportunity to see how familiar characters evolved years before the events of the original Hunger Games saga.
