Does The Deep Die in 'The Boys?' What Happens to the Hated Hero in the Comics?

With only a few episodes left before The Boys wraps up, fans are beginning to wonder which characters will actually make it out alive. Among the biggest question marks is The Deep, played by Chace Crawford, whose bizarre, frustrating, and often deeply uncomfortable journey has somehow lasted across all five seasons of the show. Despite repeatedly finding himself at the center of chaos, the aquatic Supe continues to survive against all odds.

And now, with Season 5 raising the stakes higher than ever, many viewers are asking a simple question: Does The Deep finally die, or could he somehow make it to the end again? While the show will answer the same soon, here is what happens to him in the comics.

Surprisingly, The Deep does not die in The Boys comics. While several major characters meet brutally violent ends during the comic’s final run, The Deep ends up being one of the few surviving members connected to The Seven. However, his comic-book version is notably different from the live-action adaptation fans know today.

After the original Seven eventually falls apart, The Deep survives and later joins a new superhero team called True. Unlike the TV version, which leans heavily into awkward comedy, insecurity, and self-destruction, the comic version of The Deep plays a much smaller role in the larger narrative. That said, the show has already changed several major storylines from the source material — including major differences involving Stormfront, Black Noir, and Soldier Boy — meaning The Deep’s comic survival is far from a guarantee in the final season.

At the same time, Season 5 increasingly feels like it may finally be catching up to The Deep.

Why The Deep’s fate in The Boys feels more uncertain than ever?

Chace Crawford hinted that things only get worse for the character, describing his arc as a “sad downward spiral” as The Seven slowly collapses around him. Crawford also teased that viewers may finally see The Deep face long-awaited consequences for his actions.

“I love Kripke for keeping us all to the bitter end, but it’s the curtain call...It’s time to pay the piper, you know?,” he said about The Deep’s fate, as per Forbes.

Season 5 has already pushed the character into increasingly dangerous territory. Desperate to stay in Homelander’s good graces, The Deep has found himself caught in escalating tensions inside The Seven while continuing to lose the few things he genuinely cares about. Crawford even admitted that The Deep was “always irredeemable,” adding that what comes next will be “fun,” “weird,” and “hopefully explosive.” Whether that means redemption, humiliation, or death remains unclear. As the final episode braces for a theatrical release, survival may no longer feel guaranteed, not just for The Deep but others as well.
