Apple TV’s Slow Horses has always understood that the best spies are not necessarily the polished ones. Instead, the series finds its sharpest drama in Slough House, where disgraced MI5 agents are sent to disappear professionally, only to keep stumbling into crises that would make Whitehall nervous. With its dry British wit, bruising character dynamics, and Gary Oldman’s gloriously miserable Jackson Lamb, the spy thriller has become one of Apple TV’s most distinctive dramas.

Season 6 continues that tradition with a familiar ensemble and a few intriguing additions. But before Lamb starts insulting everyone within earshot, there is one important question: who is actually reporting for duty this time?

The Slough House roster remains packed with performers who know how to make espionage look like a badly managed government office where everyone happens to carry classified information. Amid that, Gary Oldman is bound to return as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant, foul-mouthed, and perpetually disheveled head of Slough House. The Oscar winner brings the character the kind of lived-in authority that makes Lamb’s insults feel almost affectionate.

Jack Lowden as River Cartwright: Lowden returns as River, the ambitious MI5 agent whose career keeps getting tangled in the chaos surrounding Lamb. He is also known for Dunkirk and War & Peace.

Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner: Scott Thomas reprises the formidable MI5 power player whose polished exterior often conceals several moves ahead on the chessboard.

Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish: Reeves returns as the former MI5 administrator whose quiet competence has made her one of Slough House’s most important stabilizing forces.

Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho: Chung returns as Slough House’s technically gifted and spectacularly self-confident computer specialist.

Rosalind Eleazar, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley and Tom Brooke: The returning ensemble continues to fill out the Slow Horses team, while Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West and Jonathan Pryce are also part of the season’s wider cast.

Hugo Weaving and Lenny Rush: Season 6 also expands the ensemble, with Weaving joining the cast and BAFTA TV Award winner Rush arriving as a new addition.

Olivia Cooke as Sidonie “Sid” Baker: One of the season’s biggest surprises is Cooke’s return as Sid, whose presumed death in Season 2 made her comeback particularly unexpected. Cooke has also starred in House of the Dragon and The Girlfriend.

And that last name changes the temperature of the entire operation. In Slow Horses, a dead body rarely means the story is finished.

When Slough House becomes the target

Season 6 is based on Mick Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House, adapting the sixth and seventh novels in the Slough House series. Apple TV has teased a particularly dangerous situation this time around, with the Slow Horses finding themselves on the run after Diana Taverner becomes entangled in a high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge. That setup feels perfectly suited to the series.

Slough House works best when its supposedly useless agents are forced into situations where the official channels have already failed. With Sid back in the picture and Lamb once again surrounded by people who are far more complicated than their personnel files suggest, Season 6 could turn another routine intelligence mess into a full-blown institutional nightmare. The wait is also officially coming to an end. Slow Horses Season 6 premieres globally on September 16, 2026, with six episodes arriving weekly through October 21.

For a series built around damaged spies, bad decisions and even worse office politics, that sounds exactly like another day at Slough House.
