Some Hollywood relationships quietly outlast the headlines that first brought them together. Over the years, Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid built a reputation for keeping their romance largely private while navigating long-distance, a broken engagement, and years of life on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The couple's relationship often appeared stronger after overcoming earlier challenges, with Cox previously describing one difficult chapter as a turning point that ultimately brought them closer.
Even without revisiting their engagement, they continued building a life together for nearly a decade afterward.
That long-running relationship has now reportedly come to an end, closing the chapter on a romance that spanned more than a decade.

Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid have reportedly ended their relationship
According to a report by The Daily Mail, Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid have reportedly ended their relationship after more than a decade together. PEOPLE later confirmed the split. The pair first began dating in 2013 after being introduced through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran. They became engaged the following year before calling off their engagement in 2015.
Although they reconciled in 2016, they chose not to become engaged again.
The Daily Mail on Sunday, revealed that the couple quietly separated late last year. According to the publication, friends described the split as entirely amicable, saying they had "simply reached a point where they were living different lives." One source added that McDaid continues to speak highly of Cox and that the two remain close friends who still care deeply about one another.
The reported split comes nearly a year after the couple's last public appearance together at the 2025 US Open in New York. Although the relationship has now come to an end, Cox had previously described one of its most difficult moments as the very experience that ultimately brought them closer.
Courteney Cox once said their breakup made the relationship stronger
Years before their reported split, Courteney Cox reflected on the couple's first breakup and explained why she ultimately believed it strengthened their relationship. While ending their engagement in 2015 was painful, the actress later said the experience allowed both of them to grow before finding their way back to one another.
"He's not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we're just together. We broke off our engagement, and he moved to England, then we got back together, and it's actually better than it was before," Cox said during a 2019 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She later revisited that chapter during a 2024 appearance on Minnie Driver's Minnie Questions podcast, revealing that the breakup happened during couples therapy and came as a complete surprise to her. Looking back, however, Cox said she eventually became grateful for Johnny McDaid's decision because it forced both of them to confront issues that ultimately helped their relationship grow, a journey that culminated in their 10-year milestone.
Whether that growth was enough to withstand the demands of a long-distance relationship over time remains unclear. Representatives for Cox and McDaid have not publicly commented on the reported split.
