After Anyone But You's Netflix debut, her not-so-hit Marvel, Madame Web, is in the queue on the Netflix shelves. However, it seems that despite her character of Julia Cornwall failing to leave a mark, her upcoming Barbarella has an MCU connection.

As reported by Deadline a few hours ago, the Met Gala 2024 showstopper is all set for an Edgar Wright-led movie, which has managed to rope in two fan-favorite X-Men writers, Jane Goldman and Honey Ross. Although the remake has been in the works since 2022, no developments have been out until now. The 1960s sci-fi cult classic remake is now all set to move forward with Sony Pictures following Sweeney’s remarkable success in Anyone But You. 

Director Edgar Wright is making sure there is no scramble in getting done with the project since the teams consider it a ‘big franchise’ after all. Moreover, the award-winning horror director is swamped with another simultaneous project, The Running Man, which stars Sweeney's Anyone But You co-star, Glen Powell.

A release date, hence, is nowhere near the horizon for either of them. While fans wait for another Sweeney project to grace their screens, Madame Web is all set to stream on Netflix. But when?

Dakota Johnson starrer, Madame Web is scheduled to be released on Netflix on May 14, 2024. Based on the Marvel Comics character, it tells the origin story of Cassie Webb, a clairvoyant who is able to see future events in the Spider world. Alongside Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, it also casts Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. 

The film received negative reviews and has a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is expected to do well on the American streamer, given the popularity of the Marvel franchise and the success of other Marvel movies on the platform. It is for this reason that fans are pretty much convinced of an upcoming disaster. However, only May 14 can determine if Madame Web will be able to redeem itself from the disappointing box-office performance.
