The English dub features Ben Stegmair as Yuru and Molly Zhang as Asa, while the Japanese cast includes Kensho Ono as Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as Asa and Yuichi Nakamura as Dera. New episodes arrive every Saturday at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT, with the anime running for 24 episodes across two parts. The first part concluded with Episode 12 on June 20, while Part 2 began with Episode 13 on July 4 and is scheduled to conclude with the Season 1 finale on September 19.
But the real reason to press play is not simply the pedigree of the creator behind it. It is the unsettling world Yuru is about to discover.
What is Daemons of the Shadow Realm about?
Before Yuru, the protagonist in the world of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, understands why his life is so unusual, he is simply a young hunter living in an isolated mountain village, far removed from the forces that will eventually tear apart his quiet existence. His connection to his twin sister, Asa, is at the heart of the mystery, particularly because the siblings were separated when they were young and grew up without fully understanding the truth surrounding their origins.
That truth becomes increasingly difficult to ignore when Yuru and Asa are revealed as the “children who sunder day and night,” twins possessing a unique connection to powerful supernatural beings known as Daemons. What initially looks like an isolated family mystery gradually opens into something much larger, with the siblings drawn toward a destiny that neither of them fully understands.

And that is where Arakawa's world gets its teeth. The anime is not simply throwing supernatural creatures into a fantasy adventure; it is using Yuru and Asa's fractured relationship and mysterious origins to build a larger mythology around them. Adapted from Arakawa's manga, the series is directed by Masahiro Ando at Bones Film, with Nobuhiro Takagi handling series composition and Nobuhiro Arai designing the characters.
For anyone drawn to fantasy stories where the family mystery is just the beginning, Daemons of the Shadow Realm has plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered. And if Arakawa’s latest has you in the mood for more, these top manga adaptations on Netflix are worth adding to the watchlist.
