When it comes to launching a high-stakes Academy Award campaign, standard Q&A panels simply will not cut it for a Christopher Nolan blockbuster. To secure their spot on the ballot, Universal Pictures is pulling out all the stops with a star-studded, two-week blitz for the cinematic epic The Odyssey. Rather than relying solely on traditional screenings, the studio has assembled an unprecedented moderator lineup featuring some of the most revered filmmakers and actors in modern cinema.

Robert Downey Jr., Guillermo del Toro, and Steven Spielberg are set to turn every single post-screening chat into a must-attend event for awards voters.

Universal pulls out all the stops for The Odyssey Oscar campaign

According to Variety, Universal Pictures is officially unleashing a high-stakes awards season blitz starting the week of November 9 for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Organizing a relentless two-week gauntlet of screenings and panel discussions designed to keep director Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, and leading man Matt Damon front and center, the studio has already made sure that this rollout becomes an extravaganza for the world to see.

To ensure maximum impact, Universal is bringing out some of the heaviest hitters in Hollywood to guide the conversations. Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. is set to kick off the Los Angeles festivities on November 11 with an IMAX 70mm screening at the TCL Chinese Theatre, followed immediately by fellow visionary Guillermo del Toro moderating a session at AMC Universal CityWalk on November 12.

The crown jewel of the run hits the DGA Theater on November 17 in 70mm, where none other than Steven Spielberg will take the reins to grill Nolan, as reported by Variety. With a jaw-dropping total of seven Academy Awards sitting comfortably in the moderator chairs, the studio's aggressive, star-studded playbook for Oscar gold seems to be more than a brilliant film like The Odyssey needs. Still, for an all-out effort, Universal has pulled something beyond spectacular.

But Universal did not stop here either. The studio has something more planned for the rollout.

Universal’s another ace up its sleeve

Rather than relying exclusively on early screenings of the feature itself, Universal’s strategic rollout places a massive spotlight on the meticulous artistry powering the blockbuster. On November 10, the studio's Spielberg Theater will roll out the red carpet for the global debut of Behind the Scenes of The Odyssey, an exclusive 75-minute documentary chronicling the film’s massive production, introduced personally by Christopher Nolan.

Following the screening, leading man Matt Damon - stepping into the role of the legendary Greek king - will host an exhaustive panel discussion featuring the elite behind-the-scenes masterminds who brought the epic to life. The star-studded Q&A gathers producer Emma Thomas alongside an all-star roster of department heads. It will also include casting director John Papsidera, editor Jennifer Lame, and production designer Ruth De Jong.

Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, hair stylist Gloria Casny, makeup artist Luisa Abel, sound mixer Willie Burton, supervising sound editor Craig Henighan, composer Ludwig Göransson, and visual effects wizard Andrew Jackson will also be present.
