This year’s Oscar race has been monumental, and certain names have dominated the ongoing awards season. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners created history with a staggering 16 nominations, while Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another followed closely with 13 nods as the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, January 22. The previous record of the most nominations was held by Titanic and La La Land, both securing 14 nominations each.
The horror flick by Coogler garnered nominations in almost every major category, including Best Film, Original Screenplay, and Editing, while Coogler received a Directing nod. Meanwhile, Paul Thomas Anderson will give stiff competition to Coogler in the aforementioned category, as he has been nominated for Best Director as well.
In the acting categories, Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for his impeccable performance in Marty Supreme. However, he will be facing a lot of competition from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent), and Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon).

On the other hand, Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You), Emma Stone (Bugonia), and Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue) will be battling it out for the Best Actress statuette.
The International Feature Film category turned out to be the most shocking one, with Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice not finding a place in the list of nominees. Brazil’s The Secret Agent, Norway’s Sentimental Value, and France’s It Was Just an Accident will be going for the golden statuette. Tunisia’s The Voice of Hind Rajab and Sirat from Spain rounded off the International Film nominees.
The dust has now settled, and the countdown to the main event begins. Check the full nominations below.
