Zoe Saldaña and Matthew McConaughey’s Romance Flick With Netflix Is Set to Start Filming Soon

Heading forward with speed, Netflix is picking up the cameras for yet another film already. With Zoe Saldaña and Matthew McConaughey set to romance each other on the streamer's screens, a date set for the first roll has now arrived. 

Shedding their aerospace-fits and blue skins, Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña now simply await the camera's first cue.

First brought into discussion in December 2025, Netflix's romance number, titled Positano, is preparing to come its way. While the plot and any other traces of an extended cast remain yet to be revealed, Positano is set to start filming in May 11, 2026, and will wrap by August 4, 2026, according to issue 1488 of Production Weekly. Positano will mark Saldaña and McConaughey's first collaboration and together. 

The filming location will be the title's focus: the coastal town of Positano in Italy. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Daniel Roher, known for his 2002 documentary feature Navalny, and films like Tuner and Blink, will helm the filmSaldaña will join the production after her successful James Cameron-helmed Avatar: Fire and Ash. McConaughey will return to lead his first big screen role after a sweep of voice roles and cameos done across the last few years, with reservations for a fifth True Detective season.

While Positano waits for the cameras to roll, Netflix has a spring filled with movies to overcome.

Following the lukewarm welcome of People We Meet on Vacation and the high-temperature reception of The Rip through January, the next month is set for the releases of Queen of Chess and Joe’s College Road Trip, coming February 6 and February 13. The start of spring will see the films War Machine and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man released on March 6 and March 20, respectively. 

A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough and APEX will be released on April 17 and April 24, respectively. As the season ends, the streamer will dish out Remarkably Bright Creatures on May 8. Ladies First will also see a May release, but has not received a set date as of now.

Netflix and romance are a time-old tale, but with the streamer's knack for sometimes playing safe, Positano is yet to be set up for debate. With two blockbuster-friendly faces, there is, however, ample hope that remains.
