Kitty Song Covey’s senior year had everything: romance, heartbreak, an unresolved kiss, and a Minho-shaped man sprinting through a subway station like love had finally discovered public transport. XO, Kitty season 3 gave MinHo fans their long-awaited romance, then gleefully put it through the emotional blender before delivering a fairytale reunion. Although fans may have already started searching whether XO, Kitty is a mystery thriller too, because of the uncertainty that Season 4 of the show is bringing.

Unlike previous seasons, which received relatively quick post-finale updates, XO, Kitty Season 4 is taking its sweet time reaching a decision.

According to Deadline, Paramount Television Studios has extended Netflix’s option on the series and, crucially, extended the cast options too. Netflix is reportedly considering multiple paths forward, including a traditional Season 4 that could return Kitty to Seoul or send her somewhere entirely new. Alternatively, the franchise could trade another full semester for a feature-length finale and let the story graduate in cinematic style.

The movie angle that Deadline revealed would also fit Jenny Han’s apparent fondness for the rule of three rather beautifully. The To All the Boys saga became a trilogy, while The Summer I Turned Pretty is following three seasons with a film conclusion. Considering the reviews and numbers of Season 3, which were not too shabby, the decision belongs entirely to Netflix, leaving fans to do what they do best: speculate.

With Season 4 not quite banished from the conversation, let us weigh what the uncertainty could mean for XO, Kitty’s characters in the meantime.

If XO, Kitty returns, Kitty Song Covey and Min Ho could trade Seoul for Portland, where romance would have to survive family introductions, cultural differences, and the terrifying intimacy of seeing each other in a normal hometown setting. Meanwhile, graduation and college applications would loom over the KISS crew, threatening to scatter the friends just as adulthood finally arrives.

The biggest change, however, could be Kitty Song Covey herself. A future chapter would have to move her beyond the delightful chaos of first love, forcing her to confront what she actually wants when romance is no longer the only plot twist. Whether Netflix chooses another season or a feature-length farewell, Kitty Song Covey still has plenty of growing up left to do.
