George Wada has promised a tighter, more faithful adaptation of the manga in Netflix's One Piece anime remake owing to the original's slow-pacing and extended runtime. The WIT Studio CEO explained that the remake project originated from such a need to simplify and improve the introduction of new viewers to Eiichiro Oda's complex and extensive pirate epic.
"The goal is to use modern animation technologies to bring the work back to life and make it accessible to a new generation of fans around the world. Our studio is not just remaking panels; this remake will be dense and impactful, without unnecessary stretching. It will combine visual enjoyment, strong storytelling, and flawless pacing," Wada said in an interview with the YouTube Channel, Ai Show.
Wada further explained that for the modern younger generation to get acquainted with Eiichiro Oda's manga, a lot of the details must be trimmed down into digestible bite-sized episodes. For the new generation to follow Oda's story is something that aligns with the author's perspective, as well, Wada stressed.
Wada also addressed the increased stakes of performance of the anime, given that it will now compete with Hollywood studios like Disney and the like as a part of Netflix's production. Oda's One Piece has gone global, moving out of Japan, which, per Wada, requires explicit attention to modernization. However, the anime could never stray from the original storylines, which comes as a silent promise.
So, what will Wada's remake of the One Piece anime be like? Which arcs will be simplified?
