Running Point returns on Netflix with a 10-episode second season, taking Isla Gordon's (Kate Hudson), the rehabilitated party girl who is now the president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team, story further in the series. The events of the first season really left the audience with a lot of anticipation as odds stacked up against Isla with her team losing and Cam’s (Justin Theroux) early return from the rehab.  

Just like its predecessor, season 2 has a plethora of moments that generate a good laugh and an ending that has a twist. But the main question is whether this ending results in a third season or not?

Although Running Point has not been formally picked up by Netflix for a third season, there is actually plenty of material to go on if the makers decide to renew the show for a third season. The season 2 climax has left things somewhat open for the story to progress in a new direction. 

The show finally gives Isla her first win as president with the end of season 2, when the Los Angeles Waves defeat their opponents in the ABL finals and win the global championship. However, this moment of victory is short-lived as the following morning, Cam and Al declare that they have acquired the LA Industry basketball team and have high hopes of making it the best in Los Angeles. 

To add to the shock, Cam also discloses that they have appointed Jay as their new head coach and part-owner of the LA Industry, leaving Isla and her siblings dumbfounded. Isla will probably feel deceived by Jay's choice to work with Cam, who is constantly attempting to undermine his younger sister. It is safe to assume that if Running Point makes a comeback, their romance will either terminate completely or be put on hold once more.

It seems like the makers have deliberately left room for the story to continue in anticipation of a possible extension. However, it might come sooner than later.

Days after its first season debuted on Netflix, Running Point received a second season renewal in March 2025. Since season 2 debuted on April 23, 2026, there may soon be word of a season 3 renewal. If and only if that happens, we might be able to see episodes for the season drop somewhere in 2027. However, this is all based on the assumption that Netflix decides to roll the dice on a third season.

Whether Running Point returns for a third season or not, the story has given Isla something to celebrate this season - her first win as president- and this is great for her character arc. With Cam making things more and more difficult for Isla, it will be interesting to see this sibling rivalry evolve into a full-blown war in the next season - if a next season is on the cards.
