Will Netflix Stream the ICC T20 World Cup? A Broken $3 Billion Deal, Invitation, and Everything Explained
Cricket enthusiasts are never not buzzing, but this time the conversation they are having is not about a player or a match. Rather, it is about where they will get to watch one of the biggest tournaments in the world.
The next edition of the T20 World Cup is only months away, but there is no official streaming partner as of now. Amid the uncertainty, Netflix is reported to be courted by the International Cricket Council to take up the job, sending waves through the streaming world about the possibility of the leader of the field potentially stepping in to broadcast it live.
There is also a collapsed media deal at the heart of this development, making the situation more complicated and the discourse more intriguing.

So, exploring the ICC-Netflix could be collaboration and other important details
The International Cricket Council is dealing with an unexpected problem just months before the 2026 T20 World Cup. According to The Economic Times, JioStar, which signed a massive USD 3 billion deal to show ICC events from 2024 to 2027 in India, has informed the board that it cannot continue for the remaining two years.
The move has left a major gap in India’s streaming plans for one of cricket’s biggest tournaments. With the clock ticking, the ICC has started looking for alternatives and has tapped Netflix for the same. The streaming giant has been invited to explore taking over the rights; however, a reaction from it is pending as of this writing.
The Economic Times reports that mounting financial stress and substantial losses are at the core of JioStar’s decision to walk away. The broadcaster’s audited standalone accounts show a sharp jump in provisions for expected losses on sports-content deals, rising from Rs 12,319 crore to Rs 25,760 crore within a single financial year.
The steep increase highlights how difficult it has been for the platform to recover what it spends, with content costs climbing much faster than the revenue it can generate. But will this venture outside India for cricket?
With ICC in talks to give broadcast rights of cricket to Netflix in India, will the streamer also offer streaming outside India, specifically in the USA, though?
Where can US cricket fans watch the 2026 Cricket World Cup?
For stateside cricket enthusiasts, Netflix acquiring the streaming rights would mean ease when it comes to catching up with the much-anticipated contest. However, the good news will only be determined after a deal is done, with fine print revealing whether the streamer has purchased the rights only for the Indian side of the business or globally.
Even without a Netflix streaming deal, US audiences have their viewing secured, with Willow TV holding both cable and digital rights to all major cricket tournaments until the end of 2027.

So, as the ICC scrambles to secure a reliable home for one of cricket’s biggest global draws, the coming weeks will decide whether a familiar broadcaster steps up or if an unexpected player reshapes the streaming landscape. And with Netflix already in the middle of another major business move, its possible entry into live cricket in India could be the next eyebrow-raising turn in this unfolding saga.
