Hartnett, who is set to play the role in the series, has also opened up about what makes the show so intriguing.

Josh Hartnett talks about Below

Josh Hartnett, during an interview with Sharp Magazine, opened up about what convinced him to join the show. He explained that both the script and a conversation with Jesse McKeown played a role in his decision to be part of the series. Hartnett also discussed how McKeown was influenced by the local culture and created thoughtful characters with their own flaws and complexities. When asked about the show’s location, Hartnett shared how the involvement of local people made the production especially meaningful.

“Jesse (McKeown) very specifically wanted to write something for the Newfoundland fishing community. That specificity is what makes the show so unique because most of the actors are from Newfoundland. Most of the people who worked on it, beyond the acting side of it, were from the local area as well,” he said.

He added that filming on location allowed the cast to completely immerse themselves in the culture of the place. The setting itself clearly also serves as a character, with its distinct elements playing an important role in the story. More will be revealed when the show premieres on Netflix on October 8, 2026.
