Derek Turnbow, the new character unveiled in the final season of Stranger Things, is portrayed as an engaging mystery. Actor Jake Connelly is delivering this role, credited in Season 5 as a bratty classmate of Holly Wheeler but not her friend. Even though not much has been formally disclosed about the full arc of Turnbow, he is still one of the main characters in the Hawkins neighborhood for the show’s last chapter. According to Netflix, Turnbow is rude to adults and a bully to his peers. He also flaunts an acute case of potty mouth.

Jake Connelly, who was born in 2012, is a newcomer, making his major series debut with this role, which has received much attention. His public portfolio indicates that he has only one previous credit as Jakub in a short film called Between the Silence, released in 2022. Turnbow is planned to be connected with the principal characters, such as Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven, Finn Wolfhard's Mike, and so on, implying that he is not a witness but a participant in the ultimate Hawkins mission. Although the exact nature of his affiliation with the core is a mystery, Brown seems to have befriended him early on.

Teen newcomers like Jake Connelly often feel like fish out of water in Hollywood, especially because he was only four years old when the show first hit Netflix. But not under Millie Bobby Brown's watch. In a recent interview with The Wrap, Connelly revealed that Brown got in touch with him and offered her support right at the very beginning of Stranger Things 5 production.

Connelly told the outlet that Brown summoned him to his trailer and offered him great advice. She assured him by saying, "Oh yeah, we were all your age when we started. If you ever need anything, you can just call us." Brown’s kind gesture towards Connelly opened the door to a great friendship amidst the Hawkins family as it got ready for its last fight. As for Derek Turnbow, Connelly declared him as not a nice person, rather a bully in Hawkins.
