Every character and their storylines in Stranger Things are expertly intertwined across seasons. The reintroduction of 008 in season 5 already brings back plot intricacies of the past, such as the harrowing human testing project at Hawkins Lab.

One of the biggest strengths of Netflix's grand sci-fi epic is that it does not leave any loose ends and connects all threads with future conflicts. The revival of this character foreshadows theories about the final confrontation with Vecna and what lies in the impending doom.

Everything to know about 008 in Stranger Things

008 played by Linnea Berthelsen, is essentially Eleven's foster sister from Hawkins lab, both of whom have been abducted as children. Also known as Kali Prasad, she made her entry in episode seven of Season 2 of Stranger Things, where she reunites with Eleven. Another by-product of the Hawkins Lab experiments, she escaped even before the lab subject 001 unleashed his horrors.

Along with Eleven, 008 also lived through the early experiments and survived. While Kali Prasad has similar powers to Eleven, she does not rely on using brute telekinesis. In her own words, "I can make people see, or not see, whatever I choose," is the basis of Kali's powers, which makes her capable of manipulating perception.

008 can produce highly realistic illusions, leading people to see, feel, and accept as true what are in fact false realities. She can make herself or someone else invisible (as long as they remain still), or she can even change the whole atmosphere in a person's mind. While she cannot throw people against the walls with her mind, she can create holographic butterflies and even bring Dr. Brenner back to life momentarily.

Kali's comeback in Season 5 has been slowly and quietly developed. After being off-screen for years, Kali is found at a military base related to the Upside Down, where she is being held captive. Her reappearance is significant as it is an acknowledgment that the unsettling past always lingers on in Hawkins, particularly the old experiments on Vecna, Eleven, and 008.

But what does her connection to Eleven, sudden reappearance mean for the battle against Vecna?

008's return tells more than what meets the eye

During Season 2, Kali attempted to convince Eleven to take revenge together and that their powers should be used against the people who wronged them. Now, following Eleven and Hopper coming to a drugged and battered 008's rescue in Season 5, the long-lost sisters' powers render a possibility for a dynamic synergy to be used against Vecna.

Will Kali's illusions and Eleven's telekinesis finally join forces to get rid of Vecna? Their shared connection roots itself in trauma more than simple power dynamics. A battle between them could set off the indoor fireworks like never before.

Kali Prasad or 008 brings back uncertainty right at the time it is needed most. Her abilities, along with her past and connection with both Eleven and Vecna, make her a wild card that can turn the tide against Vecna, defeating his very legacy of control and abuse of power.

Not just Vecna but also Dr Kay could face the sisters' wrath. Stay seated as Stranger Things 5: Volume 2 arrives on Netflix on December 25, with the first volume already breaking records and hearts.
