Remarkably Bright Creatures follows its characters in the fictional seaside town of Sowell Bay, located on the Puget Sound in Washington state, USA. To bring the seaside locations to life, the filming took place in Vancouver, especially in the Deep Cove area. The Deep Cove Yacht Club was used as the exterior location for the Sowell Bay Aquarium scenes.

The beautiful interior aquarium scenes were filmed inside the real Vancouver Aquarium, located in Stanley Park at 845 Avison Way. Other filming locations included Lions Bay, situated between Vancouver and Squamish, as well as the city of Maple Ridge. Along with the many aquatic exhibits seen throughout the film, glimpses of a real-life giant octopus named Agnetha were also used alongside CGI to portray the unexpected friend in the movie.
