Historic movies have been appealing to audiences because of the truthfulness of the account of incidents. Also, if the portrayal of the incidents is accurate, it can shake viewers up from the inside. The recent Will Smith starrer Emancipation is one such film. It is a true story of Gordon, who was enslaved. It talks about the time when social evils like slavery, suppression, and exploitation were at their peak. However, this film, directed by one of the brilliant directors, Antoine Fuqua, is more than slavery.

After the Oscar Slap-gate, this is the first big project for the Six Degrees of Separation actor. Therefore, it was important for the actor that people would see the hard work and efforts of the whole crew as well. Recently, papa Smith took over his wife, Jada Smith’s famous talk show, Red Table Talk. The actor discussed different aspects of the film, acting, and how the character took a toll on him. Along with these discussions, towards the end of the talk, the director of the film appeared and described the film as more than slavery.

Will Smith starrer Emancipation is more than what we see

The director of the film has previously talked about the film but in a different context. However, with his recent appearance on Red Table Talk, in very few words, he reminded the viewers the film was more than what they thought it was. He said, “When people go to see this film, I’m hoping they’ll be inspired, and experience the love story.” The director hoped the viewer would see the film about freedom, faith, and family. He also wanted people to know the film was about strength.

The story of Peter was inspiring not because he was a slave and he managed to run away. According to Antoine Fuqua, despite Peter being a slave, he was free in his thought and spirit. If you’ve watched the film, you would understand what he means when he said this. Later, the Focus star and the kids went on to talk about the brilliance of the director.
