Netflix presents a delightful and merry Norwegian romantic holiday comedy composed of nothing but warmth, laughter, and romantic blunders. Set in the wintry landscape of Oslo, Home For Christmas revolves around love, family expectations, and the fulfilment of Christmas wishes, particularly that of finding a last-minute boyfriend to bring home for the festive dinner.

Rife with delightful and unique characters, the series is a perfect sweet treat for cold evenings, set against beautiful Nordic landscapes, featuring gentle conversations, spicy romance, and hearty comedy. For those who are single this Christmas, this Netflix show teeters towards almost a biblically accurate representation of peak girlboss energy, far away from the cliche of gingerbread cookie-cutter holiday rom-coms.

Definitely not aligning with the cheesy romances one expects during Christmas, director Per-Olav Sørensen's series packs in two incredibly edgy, gritty, hilarious, and not-so-family-friendly seasons. Currently, the first two seasons are already streaming on Netflix, and now is the perfect time to start binging it because Season 3 drops on December 12, 2025.

As the holidays approach, Netflix has vowed to leave no binger unentertained with its extensive festive lineup, hence offering the Norwegian original series for the third time with great English dubbing. What began as the compelling story of Johanne trying to find a suitor has now arrived at the next chapter, where she grapples with the aftermath.

The Sweetest Christmas Series on Netflix Is Finally Getting a New Season

If it is not just a love story, or a classic corny Christmas tale, what is Home For Christmas really about?

Home For Christmas on Netflix: Plot and cast

Home for Christmas depicts the life of Johanne, a Norwegian nurse in her thirties who has grown weary of solitude and incessantly being interrogated about her love life by her family and relatives. During a festive dinner where she lies about having a boyfriend, Johanne pulls the trigger on a 24-day search for a lover to take home for Christmas.

Over the course of two seasons, the series records her dating escapades, while she deals with ex-flings and fresh romances, and experiences emotional shifts at the brightest time of the year. The series maintains its pace by keeping the runtime of each episode short, around 26–31 minutes, which makes it an easy winter binge.
